Siena is one of those cities that makes it easy to stop for gelato more than once in a day. After visiting Siena several times over the years, I’ve narrowed my list to these three places that I think are worth seeking out for the best gelato in town.

1. La Vecchia Latteria

Go Here For: The best overall gelato experience in Siena, especially if you care about seasonal flavors and quality over convenience.

If I had to send someone to just one gelateria in Siena, this would be my choice. La Vecchia Latteria is the most balanced pick on this list because the gelato itself is excellent. The flavors taste clean, true, and well made, and I especially like that the selection feels seasonal rather than fixed and predictable.

This is the place I would choose when flavor matters most. They also serve soft serve frozen yogurt.

2. La Mandorla

Go Here For: Morning gelato in Siena

La Mandorla stands out because it is not only a gelateria. It is also a Sicilian-style place where you can stop in the morning, which immediately makes it different from the usual afternoon or evening gelato stop. If you like the idea of having gelato earlier in the day, this is where I would go.

What makes it especially fun is that you can treat it like breakfast. You can stop in for coffee, pastries, and then also have gelato without it feeling out of place.

It also has that unmistakable Sicilian touch, which gives it a different personality from the other gelaterias in town.

Good To Know: They also make excellent granita during the summer.

3. Il Masgalano

Go Here For: Biggest sizes

Il Masgalano is one of those places that deserves a place on a shortlist because it serves up the biggest scoops in town. It may not be the one I would put at the very top for the best gelato in Siena, but it is still a gelateria I enjoy very much.

Their chocolate and nut flavors are particularly rich and satisfying.

Bonus: Venchi

Go Here For: Central location for gelato in Siena

Venchi makes this list for the best gelato in Siena for one main reason: it’s in a very convenient spot. If you’re right in the center of Siena and want gelato without going out of your way, this is the easiest answer.

That said, it is not my favorite gelato in the city. The main reason is simple: Venchi is a chain, and I always choose La Vecchia Latteria first if time or location isn’t an important factor.

Still, location matters, especially when you are sightseeing and do not want to leave the center just for a cone. In that case, Venchi is the most practical option.

Final Thoughts About Gelato in Siena

There are plenty of places to get gelato in Siena, but these are the main I would actually recommend to my friends and family. Each one has a clear reason to go, which makes choosing easier depending on the kind of day you are having.

For me, the standout is still La Vecchia Latteria for the quality of the gelato itself. But I also love that La Mandorla gives you a completely different option by making morning gelato feel perfectly acceptable!
