My Top 4 Gelaterie For Dairy-Free Gelato In Venice

Last updated on January 16th, 2025

You may be worried that if you are traveling with allergies in Italy, you may have trouble ordering gelato in Venice. FALSE!

I am here to tell you that it’s easy to visit Venice and enjoy dairy-free gelato no matter where you are in the city center!

I’ve been based in Italy since 2012 and love traveling to Venice for its wonderful food. It’s such a great place to eat if you are dairy-free because the regional cuisine is based on seasonal produce, seafood and fresh fruit

Dairy-free gelato flavors are no exception and are usually some of the best because they tend to be made with fresh, seasonal ingredients.

Join me as I share my top 4 spots for dairy-free gelato in Venice based on first hand experience. I’ll quickly describe each one and suggest which flavors to try.

Fact: Dairy-free gelato in Italy may be labeled as vegano (vegan), senza latte (made without milk) or sorbetto (sorbet).

  1. Gelateria di Natura

6 locations all over the city center of Venice

Best For: Dairy-free travelers in Venice on a budget

I Suggest: Berry flavors such as lampone (raspberry) or fragola (strawberry)

Gelateria di Natura is a local chain in Venice that has been a favorite of mine for quite some time. All of their flavors are 100% natural and seasonal, making it difficult to choose! While I prefer their fruit flavors, they often have other dairy-free gelato flavors like chocolate or almond.

Although there are several locations in the city center, my favorite Gelateria di Natura is in Campo San Giacomo dell’Orio which tends to be less crowded as it’s off the beaten path in a more residential neighborhood (as residential as you can get these days in Venice).

  1. Gelateria Alaska

Calle Larga dei Bari, 1159

Best For: Innovative dairy-free gelato flavors in Venice

I Suggest: I always like to ask what the specialty of the day (or week) is

Gelateria Alaska upon first visit seems touristy but it’s actually worth a visit, especially if you are on the hunt for dairy-free flavors in Venice because they specialize in odd (or rather, non-traditional and innovative) flavors. They have all the usuals but the owners like to play with new flavor combinations like ginger, tomato and artichoke. Dare you try?

  1. Suso

Salizada S. Giovanni Grisostomo, 5801 (Rialto Bridge) and Sotoportego de la Bissa, 5453, 30124 Venezia VE (2 minute walk from first location)

Best For: Fruit flavored dairy-free gelato in Venice

I suggest: Frutti di bosco (fruits of the forest) and limone (lemon) dairy-free flavors

Suso is my top pick for dairy-free gelato in Venice if you are looking for fruit flavors. This small chain always has a wide selection of seasonal fruit sorbet flavors for vegans

Because they have two locations that are close to each other, you can try the second location if the first is overly crowded.

  1. Gelateria Il Doge

Sestiere Dorsoduro, 3058/A

Best For: Chocolate dairy-free gelato in Venice

I Suggest: Sorbetto al cioccolato (chocolate sorbet)

Gelateria Il Doge is my top pick for dairy-free chocolate sorbet located off the beaten bath in a beautiful square full of students and locals. It’s just off of Piazza Santa Margherita, a great place to spend a whole afternoon or evening in Venice for families with great restaurants, bars and cafes.

This is a gelateria that generally has a fixed gelato flavors list including plenty of dairy-free options, making it a sure chance you will find what you are looking for (and they won’t run out!).
