While you can get dairy-free gelato at most gelaterie in Florence, there are some that are better than others. So why settle for an OK dairy-free gelato when you can find the best of the best in downtown Florence?
I have been living in Florence since 2012, giving me expert knowledge and first hand experience guiding tourists, friends and family around the city and ultimately, making me one of the leading experts in the field.
I have always been a sorbetto girl at heart and love how Italy embraces each season’s bountiful harvest. I believe dairy-free gelato flavors are actually the best on the menu because they tend to be made with fresh, seasonal ingredients, creating the absolute best and richest flavors.
Join me as I share with you my top 4 spots for dairy-free gelato in Florence. I will quickly describe each one and suggest what flavors to try.
Fact: Dairy-free gelato in Italy may be labeled as vegano (vegan), senza latte (made without milk) or sorbetto (sorbet).

Bonus: Venchi | Piazza della Stazione, 18 (at Santa Maria Novella train station) | Dairy-free gelato while waiting for your train in Florence |
Gelateria Della Passera
Via Toscanella, 15 (close to Piazza Pitti)
Best For: Dairy-free nut gelato in Florence
I Suggest: Mandorla (almond) dairy-free gelato
Gelateria della Passera is my top pick for dairy-free gelato in Florence if you want to try nut flavors such as pine nut or almond. Located in the charming Piazza della Passera, you could spend all day here, drinking at Bar Degli Artisti and eating at Trattoria 4 Leoni before your dairy-free gelato.
Keep in mind that dairy-free gelato nut flavors are seasonal, meaning you won’t find them year-round. Most Italian nuts come into season in the late summer and fall. If you are here outside of this time, don’t worry, they have amazing dairy-free fruit flavors as well such as a wide selection of various citrus in the winter.

Sbrino
Via dei Serragli, 32r. +39 055 012 2286 (Newest locations in Via di S. Niccolò, 58 and
in Via Senese, 1r)
Best For: Dairy-free fruit or chocolate flavored gelato in Florence
I Suggest: Lampone (raspberry) dairy-free gelato or cioccolato fondente (dark chocolate)
Sbrino is my favorite gelateria in Florence for farm-to-table style gelato. All their ingredients are sourced from Tuscany using DOP and DOC ingredients from other regions, if need be, making their gelato some of the tastiest in the whole city.
Their gelato flavors change seasonally and be prepared to see popular flavors crossed off the list as the day passes. Look for a very rich and flavorful dark chocolate sorbet which is my favorite to pair with strawberry or raspberry sorbet.
Carabè
Via Ricasoli, 60r. +39 055.289476 (close to Accademia)
Best For: Dairy-free granita in Florence (and fruit flavors)
I Suggest: Citrus-flavored gelato and agrumi granita
Carabè is my favorite gelateria in Florence for fruit flavored gelato and other non-dairy Italian treats such as granita. It’s run by Antonio, a fourth-generation, Sicilian-born gelato maker. My favorite dairy-free flavors at Carabè are the citrus-based ones.
In the summer, I highly suggest trying the granita. Fresh and light, this cool treat is even more refreshing than a traditional sorbetto.

Edoardo
Piazza del Duomo, 45r (close to Duomo)
Best For: Organic dairy-free gelato in Florence
I Suggest: Fico (fig) or limone (lemon) dairy-free gelato
Edoardo is my hands down favorite gelato in Florence in general but it’s also my top pick for the best organic dairy-free gelato in the city.
For the better or worse, Edoardo is located in Piazza Duomo, making it a popular stop for tourists. It’s always busy and the line can get long under the sun so try and strategically plan your gelato for when they open. And if you do have to wait, don’t be turned away – the wait is worth it!

Piazza della Stazione, 18 (at Santa Maria Novella train station)
Best For: Dairy-free gelato while waiting for your train in Florence
I Suggest: Cioccolato fondente (dark chocolate) or mango dairy-free gelato
If you are at the Santa Maria train station and waiting for your train, check out Venchi for a sweet treat. They always have dairy-free gelato flavors including chocolate and fruit flavors. They always have a dark chocolate sorbet that is quite rich and several tropical flavors such as mango.
