Looking to drink and taste some of the best wines in Florence? Whether you are a newbie or a wine connoisseur, there is something for you in Florence with the right atmosphere and wine list to fit your style and agenda.
I have been living in Florence since 2012 and after tasting wines in the Renaissance city as a student, tourist, resident and now mother, I know where the best places are to try and buy wine in Florence.
Let’s take a look at the best enotecas in Florence and the specialty of each place.

Taste Wines At Enoteche
Best For: A wide selection of local wines
An enoteca (plural form enoteche) is a wine bar in Italian. It’s a place that offers a wide selection of wine by the glass and by the bottle, giving you the best chance to try a wide selection of wines in Florence.
The staff at an enoteca should have a pretty good knowledge of the wines they are selling, especially any wines from Tuscany.

Usually wine bars in Florence re casual yet elegant. Most have some kind of menu with small bites and snacks such as cheese and charcuterie boards or crostini to pair with your wines.
Enoteche in Florence are usually open from 11:00 am – 10:00 pm -12:00 am.
Taste Wines At Restaurants
Best For: Foodies or visitors who would like to learn more about pairing wine with food
Restaurants are the best places to try wine with food, giving you the opportunity to grow your knowledge about wines and how food affects their taste.
If you are unsure of what to order with your food, just ask your server for a suggestion, especially if you are in a restaurant with an extensive wine list.
Good To Know: Michelin star restaurants and high end restaurants will have a sommelier to help select your wine and pair it with each course of your meal.
Taste Wines At Bars
Best For: Budget friendly
An Italian bar isn’t the best place to sample a wide variety of wines but it’s a great place to try regional specialties at an affordable price.

Enoteca Pitti Gola E Cantina
Piazza de’ Pitti, 16
Best For: Tasting wine outside in Florence while people watching
Enoteca Pitti Gola is my top pick for travelers looking to taste a wide selection of wines in Florence with the best outdoor seating for soaking up the sun and people watching.
Located right across from the Pitti Palace, Enoteca Pitto Gola offers its clients a unique wine tasting experience paired with classic Tuscan dishes, making it a great place to learn more about how wines pair with food and flavors.

Le Volpi e l’Uva
Piazza dei Rossi, 1R
Best For: A light dinner or lunch with cheese and charcuterie boards
Tucked away just off of Ponte Vecchio in a small square is one of Florence’s most beloved enoteche by locals. Although there are plenty of tourists there, you have to know about it to be there as it’s not visible to the main drag.
Come here to pair your wine tasting in Florence with a light meal made up of delicious cheese and cured meats, crostini and other appetizers.
Good To Know: They have a large outdoor terrace covered with umbrellas while indoor seating is limited.
Il Santino
Via Santo Spirito, 60/R
Best For: Tasting wine with the locals
Il Santino is literally a hole in the wall serving up high quality wines by the glass to locals. It’s hard to get one of their small indoor tables so be prepared to drink your wine curb-side with all the other patrons hoping to get a table as well.
They make some of the best snacks and small bites, each developed to drink with a specific wine. Their staff is super friendly and loves to help you learn more about wine.
Good To Know: Il Santino is part of the restaurant next door Il Santo Bevitore, one of my favorite spots in Florence as well as S.Forno, serving up some of the best baked goods in the city.
Casa Del Vino
Via dell’Ariento, 16r
Best For: Visiting a historic enoteca in Florence
La Casa del Vino is one of Florence’s oldest enoteche to taste wines located in the San Lorenzo neighborhood.
The vibe is casual, marked by a wooden interior. Run by a Florentine family, this wine bar is a good place to come for a wide selection but not the best place if you are looking for an intimate and curated experience with staff who are going to spend a lot of time with you.
There are a lot of old timers who come for their daily glass and to chat up the owners, giving them little time to explain each wine they serve. This being said, it’s a truly wonderful place and one close to the heart for many in Florence.
Procacci
Via de’ Tornabuoni, 64R
Best For: Luxury experience & truffle lovers
Procacci is my top pick for tasting wines in Florence if you are looking for a luxury experience. Famous for their truffle sandwiches and small bites, this fancy enoteca serves much more than just that.
Choose from a great selection of wines and cocktails to pair with your expensive snacks. Sit at the bar or outside on their small terrace as you spend hours watching the passerby in Via Tornabuoni.
Good To Know: Although there is no formal dress code at Procacci, it’s not a place to go in shorts and flip-flops.
Signorvino
Via de’ Bardi, 46/R 48/R
Best For: Tasting wines from all over Italy (not just Tuscany)
Signorvino is a chain in Italy with one of the largest selections of wines from all over the peninsula, making it my top pick for people looking to expand their wine knowledge beyond Tuscany.
Casual and affordable, this is one of the best wine bars in Florence if you want to sit down with a snack, glass of wine or even a Spritz in a central location. Their staff is knowledgeable but because the selection is so immense, they might not have deep knowledge about each wine.
Good To Know: Signorvino has just a couple tables overlooking the Ponte Vecchio situated on the Arno river. Call ahead to book one.
Enoteca Alessi
Via dell’Oche, 27/red
Best For: Tasting more than just wine
Enoteca Alessi, located close to the Duomo, is my top pick for tasting wine in Florence if you are also interested in sampling various spirits and liquors. The owners not only have a wide selection of wine but also digestivi that they are happy to walk you through and explain as you sample local cured meats and cheeses.
Good To Know: Alessi is also a great place to pick up food souvenirs and gifts such as chocolates, candy, cookies, and other packaged food goods at their store next door.
Fiaschetteria Nuvoli
Piazza dell’Olio, 15/r
Best For: Hidden gem in central location
You can tell by just looking at Fiaschetteria Nuvoli that it’s good. Unlike so many other bars around the Duomo, this one is characterized by wood paneling, handwritten signs and locals hanging curb-side.
Come here to taste Tuscan wines with a plate of pasta or other traditional Florentine dish.
Good To Know: Fiaschetteria Nuvoli is one of the few reliable places in Florence that serves food out of the typical dining hours. You can even eat at 5:00 pm here and no one will turn you away.
Enoteca Fuoriporta
Via del Monte alle Croci, 10
Best For: Wine tasting and eating
Enoteca Fuoriporta is one of my family’s go-to lunch spots in Florence. It’s famous for is crostoni (large crostini topped with whatever you like, similar to a toasted open faced sandwich), which are best enjoyed with a glass of wine recommended by their staff.
If you can’t eat crostini, no problem! They have an amazing menu full of non-traditional Italian dishes such as large salads, hamburgers, tartare and homemade pastas.
They have ample indoor and outdoor seating but if you hope to get a table outside, pre-book your table.
Good To Know: Enoteca Fuoriporta is an ideal wine bar to book after your hike up to Piazzale Michelangelo. Located just at the base of the Rose Garden, you can time your descent with a pit stop here to recharge and refuel.
